Burnham’s sporting superstar has told Caroline Coastal how her brain “exploding” ended her RAF career, as she looks forward to representing her country once again.
Sara Howarth, 51, says support from the Royal British Legion “changed her life” after she nearly died from ruptured brain aneurism in 2014, which left her disabled.
Listen to Sara and Kate on Caroline Coastal:
The Royal British Legion has helped Sara on the road to the Invictus Games in Canada, where she will compete in Wheelchair Curling for Team UK.
Sara said: "They've changed my life.
"I was happy in my own environment in Burnham, but it's made me so much more confident and mobile. They've got me on trains and a plane since my brain exploded.
"The support we get is unbelievable."
Speaking ahead of the opening ceremony on Saturday (February 8), Sara says she is nervous but is excited to be part of Team UK.
She said: "I've still got challenges, but I'm looking forward to pushing through those.
“It will totally be a gold medal moment.
“I’m looking forward to it for the whole team, because we are Team UK.”

Sara lives with her sister, Kate Becker, who is also her carer. Kate will accompany Sara to Canada this week.
Kate added: "I'm really excited, and we’re all really proud of Sara."
The Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 kicks off on Saturday (February 8) with the opening ceremony. Highlights from the events will be streamed via ITVX.
