Maldon & Tiptree FC owners Barrie and Scott Drewitt-Barlow charged with 18 more sexual offences

TWO men arrested as part of a major sex trafficking investigation have been charged with further sexual offences.

Barrie and Scott Drewitt-Barlow, who are both connected with Maldon & Tiptree Football Club, are suspects at the centre of a large-scale police investigation which has seen two other men arrested.


Richard Howard-Smith, 35, was arrested last month along with Eldred Reames, 24.


The men, all of Southwood Chase in Danbury, have been charged with multiple offences including rape and sexual assault.


Essex Police confirmed yesterday that Barrie Drewitt-Barlow, 57, and Scott Drewitt-Barlow, 32, have been charged with further offences.


Barrie Drewitt-Barlow has been additionally charged with 15 further offences, including:

  • Two offences of sexual activity with a child

  • Two counts of paying for sexual services of a child

  • Five counts of rape

  • Four counts of sexual assault

  • Causing an individual to engage in sexual activity without consent

  • Causing or inciting sexual activity


Meanwhile, Scott Drewitt-Barlow has been additionally charged with two counts of rape and one count of causing or inciting sexual activity.


Earlier this month, the Football Association formally banned both men from running a football club during the police investigation.


The couple appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court yesterday and were remanded in custody. They will return for a plea hearing in September.


A provisional trial date has been fixed for 18 January 2027.


Detectives from the Serious Crime Directorate at Essex Police continue to investigate following arrests and raids carried out last month.


In a statement, Essex Police said: “If anyone has information relating to our investigation we would ask they contact us via our Major Incident Public Portal (MIPP).
