A POLLING station has been relocated in a "very late change" following an ongoing police investigation, Maldon District Council has announced.
Residents in the Maldon East Ward, taking part in the Essex County Council elections on Thursday (May 7), will be redirected to the Blackwater Leisure Centre after a "very late change".
They had been due to cast their votes at the Drewitt-Barlow Stadium, home to Maldon & Tiptree Football Club.
However, following what it describes as an "ongoing police investigation", Maldon District Council has announced the decision to relocate to the nearby leisure centre also on Park Drive.
Doug Wilkinson, Deputy Returning Officer for Maldon District Council, said, “In light of an ongoing police investigation, I have made the decision to relocate the Polling Station from the Drewitt-Barlow Stadium to Blackwater Leisure Centre.
“Voters who were due to be voting at the Drewitt-Barlow Stadium will be re-directed to Blackwater Leisure Centre.
"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause due to the very late change.”
Elections are taking place for four Essex County councillors to represent the Maldon District. These are Burnham and Southminster, Maldon Rural North, Maldon Rural South, and Maldon Town and Heybridge.
Polling stations will be open from 7am until 10pm. Residents must bring photo ID, or a valid Voter Authority Certificate, in order to vote.
